Where the points are
Multiple choice is half the exam. The other half is produced under a clock, by hand, and it is where most repeat takers lose. Four of the six things below exist only because of that.
Write an MEE-style essay under exam timing. Get it back in under a minute against a transparent, point-by-point rubric — which issues you hit, which rules you misstated, and what a passing answer says. There is no submission limit. Ever.
MPT and NextGen performance tasks in a split-pane workspace — task memo, file, and library side by side, 90-minute clock running. Graded on following instructions and quality of analysis: the two things real graders score.
The highest-leverage bar skill: state the rule from memory. Type it out; the engine grades the meaning, not keyword matching, and puts the canonical statement next to yours so you can see exactly what you left out.

Pick your jurisdiction
The bar exam is mid-changeover. Ten jurisdictions gave the NextGen bar exam for the first time in July 2026; roughly fifty will have moved by July 2028, and the last legacy UBE administration is February 2028. Tell us where you are sitting and you get that exam — not an average of the two.
Legacy track
The exam most jurisdictions still give, and the one every February and July sitting through February 2028 will use in the jurisdictions that have not converted. Three components, each prepared for separately and scored separately.
Successor track
NCBE’s replacement, first administered in July 2026. It still tests knowledge, writing, and applied lawyering — but it integrates them rather than splitting them into three separate papers, and it is built around a narrower set of foundational subjects.
